After sinking a half-court shot against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, one Lakers fan is now $70,000 richer.
David Metcalf of Valencia, the lucky winner, is still basking in his unexpected victory.
“I always thought it would be a crazy, high-pressure moment, but I walked out there and I didn’t feel nerves,” said Metcalf.
During the game, fans inside the Crypto.com Arena erupted in applause as Metcalf easily sank the half-court shot.
Metcalf arrived early to the game with a friend and stated that a member of the Lakers' entertainment team approached them with an offer to shoot.
Metcalf's friend was given the opportunity to win a year's supply of a sports drink, whereas Metcalf was given the half-court shot.
When the spotlight was on Metcalf, he remembered walking to the center court and feeling completely immersed.
"That felt good," Metcalf exclaimed.
His big win is the Lakers' third successful half-court shot this season.
Metcalf intends to invest some of the newly acquired funds while also taking an international vacation.
Metcalf advises those who are fortunate enough to attempt the half-court shot to, “Take a deep breath, think about what you want, focus on the net, let it up, say a quick prayer and you should be good.”
