RECALL: Raw Frozen Primal Patties for Dogs Beef Formula

FAIRFIELD, CA – July 6, 2022 – Due to the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination, Primal Pet Foods is voluntarily recalling a single lot (#W10068709) of Raw Frozen Primal Patties for Dogs Beef Formula (6-pound), with a best by date of 05/22/23.

In late April 2022, the company distributed 66 cases (396 units) of this single lot of Raw Frozen Primal Patties to Maryland, Georgia, Texas, and British Columbia. This announcement has no effect on any other lot codes or Primal products.

Primal Pet Foods has received no complaints or reports of pet or human illness as a result of this recalled product.

The US Food and Drug Administration conducted routine sampling, which revealed a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes in one sample from one lot of Raw Frozen Primal Patties for Dogs Beef Formula.

Listeria monocytogenes causes illness in dogs infrequently, but it is possible. Mild symptoms in dogs include diarrhea and vomiting. Even if a dog is asymptomatic, it can be a carrier of the bacteria and spread it to humans. Pet parents are encouraged to consult their veterinarian if their dog has consumed the recalled product.

Handling contaminated food or touching surfaces contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can make people sick. Fever, headache, muscle aches, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions are some of the symptoms that can occur in humans. Young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems are especially vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, and symptoms can be severe.
