Garden Grove Police Department detectives are investigating after $560,000 in jewelry was stolen from a person's car in broad daylight off the 22 Freeway on Thursday.
According to a press release from the GGPD, police responded to reports of a robbery around 12:41 p.m., near the intersection of Magnolia Street and Trask Avenue.
The victim, who was driving the jewelry, exited the eastbound 22 Freeway offramp at Magnolia Avenue.
A silver van stopped directly in front of their vehicle, according to police. Three male suspects in their 30s exited the van, approached the victim, and smashed out the car's rear windows.
"The suspects reached into the victim's vehicle's rear seat and took a bag containing the jewelry," authorities said in a news release.
The victim pursued the suspects after they returned to the van and attempted to flee, eventually colliding with the van but disabling their own vehicle.
The suspects were then able to flee in their car.
