Transportation officials have canceled a complete weekend closure of the eastbound 91 Freeway near Corona, which was scheduled for Friday night, Aug. 26, through early Monday, Aug. 29.

According to Aaron Hake, deputy executive director of the Riverside County Transportation Commission, the work has been postponed until a later date.

During final preparations on Tuesday, Aug. 23, the team planning the closure realized that crews might not be able to perform all of the work scheduled within a 55-hour window this weekend, according to Hake.

“It’s important to have a high degree of confidence that we are going to be able to reopen by Monday morning,”

Given the freeway's importance for Inland Empire commuters heading to coastal jobs, Hake said.
